Welcome to The Urban Sampler Quilt QAL and Tutorial!

I’m so happy that you are here and I hope you will enjoy the QAL and tutorials!

This quilt uses dynamic color combinations and eclectic block placements to provide maximum impact.

The quilt top finishes at 48″ x 48″ – a 6 x 6 block layout. But you can add or reduce the number of blocks to suit your style. Each block is 8″ x 8″ finished (8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ unfinished) and there are only 6 different blocks… can you believe it!

You can follow along as I post information on how to draft the blocks in EQ8 (quilt design software I have been using for over 13 years – no affiliation), or use your own drafting program, or, pencil and paper.

I have used EQ8 to design this quilt and produce the templates but you do not need to have the program to make this quilt – I will supply all the information you need for every block.

Having said that, if you want to take your quilt designing skills to the next level I highly recommend trying EQ8.

You can follow my cutting directions and tips here to create your own striking quilt. The Coloring Page and templates (in PDF form) can be downloaded from the relevant posts… no EQ8 software required. For EQ8 users, my .PJ8 file can also be downloaded… and you can start experimenting with colors straight away… easy right!
